In recognition of his life as an artist and teacher, in 1984 he received the Knight’s Cross of the
Order of Civil Merit on behalf of the King and Queen of Spain.
In 1989, in order to facilitate the teaching of Spanish dance in the Netherlands and as a
contribution to the history of dance, he published the book Flamenco en Spaanse dans (Flamenco
and Spanish Dance), the only book of this kind published in Dutch, in which he examines the
development and leading figures of this art.
That same year, he received the Gold Medal of Honour of the Order of Orange-Nassau in
recognition of his unparalleled work to promote Spanish dance in the Netherlands.
