In conjunction with his dance activities, Basilio had the opportunity to develop his dramatic side
as the actor starring in the film Nacht zonder zegen, directed by Jan Dorresteyn in 1978. With the
same director, he was more recently involved in the television series Parallax, which was released
in episodes in Spain by Editorial Salvat.
He was hired by De Nederlandse Operastichting (the Dutch Opera Foundation) as lead dancer
and choreographer of the opera Carmen. He also worked as choreographer of the performance
of Clavigo by Goethe for the theatre company Piek. Moreover, invited by Utrechtse Theater
Initiativen, he choreographed Federico García Lorca’s La Casa de Bernarda Alba, which
included flamenco dance passages and performances by opera singers and choirs and was
sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and the Utrecht City Council. Furthermore, in 1985 he was
the choreographer and soloist in the main show of the year on Dutch television entered in the
international festival Rose d’Or of Montreux.
With his students from the Conservatory and his studio in Utrecht, he has created Spanish dance
performances and operettas with several of the country’s opera singers, thus exhibiting this aspect
of Spanish music and culture at major Dutch theatres. Through this work, he has come to be
